2005 : Creation of the French Medical Institut.
3rd April 2006 : The first open-heart surgery performed by the Prof. Alain Deloche and Dr. Daniel Roux with his medical team from the teaching hospital of Toulouse.
6th April 2006 : The French Medical Institute for the Children was officially inaugurated by the french first lady Bernadette Chirac, President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzaï, The french Health minister Philippe Douste-Blazy and Prince Karim Aga Khan.

General function
The hospital is currently managed by the Aga Khan Developpment Network
La Chaîne de l'Espoir provides its medical expertise and oversees the medical coordination with the Doctor Alexander Leis, head of the hospital’s medical department. La Chaîne de l’Espoir manages the expatriates wages and finances the missions of specialists in the country.
The teams
Each day about 320 Afghan people, ten permanent expatriates and participants involved in short-term missions take care of the children.
They are surgeons, doctors, nurses, chemists and biomedical engineers.
Since the Institute's opening, 350 missions of La Chaine de l'Espoir have been organized to care for the children and share their knowledge with the local teams.
