An anniversary also celebrated around the world

To mark its 30th anniversary, La Chaîne de l'Espoir celebrated its humanitarian commitment around the world, from La Réunion to Benin. A landmark anniversary, punctuated by medical advances, testimonials from children saved, and ambitious prospects for pediatric cardiac surgery.

On October 18, La Chaîne de l’Espoir celebrated its 30th anniversary in Saint-Denis de La Réunion with its team of volunteers and partners on the island: the university hospital, Agence Française de Développement, Crédit Agricole La Réunion-Mayotte, local economic players and other associations (see photo opposite).

An opportunity to look back on the year’s achievements: the launch of the prevention, screening and treatment program for children in the Indian Ocean region, the first open-heart surgery at the Soavinandriana (Cenhosoa) hospital in Madagascar, and the first steps taken by the new team at the Reunion branch.

“These actions illustrate the dynamics of our Indian Ocean project,” comments Clélia Grabli, Indian Ocean program coordinator at La Chaîne de l’Espoir.

The same festive atmosphere prevailed in Cotonou, Benin (see photo opposite). The evening of November 30 celebrated not only the association’s 30th anniversary, but also the 30 children saved since 1994 thanks to their transfer to Senegal or France.

It’s a round number with a beautiful symbolism,” emphasizes Patrick Senia, head of the mission. The evening was full of entertainment, with testimonials from the children, some of whom have now recovered and become adults, and from their host families, who sent in video testimonials.

Another highlight was a round table discussion with members of La Chaîne de l’Espoir and healthcare professionals.
on the theme “What are the next steps in developing pediatric cardiac surgery in Benin? “

A wonderful prospect for the years to come…
