Marathon and solidarity!
Sonia will long remember her April 7, 2024. She realized a dream: to take part in her first marathon. Of Slovakian origin, a doctor at the Douai public hospital and mother of three, the young woman was a regular runner. This year, she set herself a new sporting challenge by signing up for the Paris Marathon.
But the challenge was also one of solidarity, as Sonia decided to compete with the La Chaîne de l’Espoir bib. “ During a family trip to Africa, which affected me enormously, I became aware of the two-speed world in which we live. So, when I saw that it was possible to run with a solidarity bib, I didn’t hesitate. . “
Choosing La Chaîne de l’Espoir was an obvious choice for her: “Twenty years ago, Comme un éléphant blanc by Alain Deloche was the first book I read in French when I arrived in the country!”
From this adventure, Sonia remembers above all one difficulty: regularity in training. “Reconciling training with family life and a busy job wasn’t always easy.”
But on the big day, she was well and truly ready: “During the marathon, I suffered quite a bit from the heat. But I finished, which was the goal, and for a good cause! I’m delighted to have raised over 1,400 euros. And, who knows, maybe I’ve inspired others to get involved…”
