Seydou, 7, “prisoner” of his body

At the age of 7, Seydou's life was turned upside down overnight. Since he was the victim of a domestic accident, he can no longer live like other children his age.

Gripped by a great thirst, he grabbed a bottle and drank without thinking.

However, he was unaware that it contained caustic soda. In liquid form, it is odorless and colorless. Contained in plastic bottles, caustic soda is often mistaken for soda or water.

The pain was immediate, unbearable… but that was only the beginning. Over the following days, every sip of water, every mouthful of food turned into a torment.

In concrete terms, Seydou’s burnt esophagus retracted, creating a caustic stenosis.

Today, the little boy can no longer eat or drink normally.

Seydou suffers from a caustic esophageal stricture after ingesting caustic soda.

Fragile survival

In Cameroon, where he lives with his mother and grandfather, Seydou survives thanks to a gastric tube.

Every day, a vitaminized porridge is poured over him to prevent him from starving to death. Despite all this, he withers away: his body weakens, his childhood gradually fades away in pain andisolation.

A vital operation

Seydou’s only chance is a major but life-saving operation: to replace his destroyed esophagus with a fragment of his colon. This operation would enable him to return to a normal life and eat like all children his age.

His family has already sacrificed everything. His grandfather pawned his cocoa field, their only income, and his mother had to quit her job to stay by his side. Despite all these sacrifices, the operation remains financially inaccessible.

Thanks to you, we can change its destiny!

A new mission is underway at theHôpital Mère-Enfant Dominique Ouattara in Bingerville, Côte d’Ivoire, led by Professor Christophe Chardot, pediatric visceral surgeon at Hôpital Necker-Enfants malades and a volunteer with La Chaîne de l’Espoir. Some twenty children will be operated on. We hope Seydou will be one of them.

To finance this mission and treat him, we need to raise the sum of 8,000 euros. With your support, Seydou will be able to enjoy a fulfilling childhood.

Together, let’s save Seydou.
