A new face for Adama
At just ten months old, little Adama was living a reclusive life due to a cleft lip, better known as a “harelip”.
At Burkina Fasowhere this malformation is often seen as a curse, his family had to face not only medical difficulties, but also prejudice.
Displaced from their village by armed attacks, his parents, former farmers, were unable to finance the much-needed operation.
Indeed, beyond the aesthetic aspect, this malformation prevented Adama from eating properly, jeopardizing his growth.
Thanks to your generosity, he was operated on at l’Hôpital Saint-Camille de Ouagadougou during a La Chaîne de l’Espoir mission.
“These operations have an immediate impact. The children can finally eat normally and quickly regain their place in society,” explains Dr Leslie-Ann See, plastic surgeon at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) and volunteer for La Chaîne de l’Espoir, who performed the operation. The mission also enabled 57 other people, including 37 children, to be operated on, while training local medical teams.
Thank you for responding to our call to mobilize in support of Adama!
