News from Andy
03/24/20 – Andy is in top form
Andy was able to undergo surgery for a mitral leak in Bordeaux.
This 4-year-old Malagasy boy is now back on his native island, in great shape. He’s even starting to run around, a sign that all our efforts have paid off.
12/13/19 – Together, let’s save Andy
Dr. Nivo, a cardiopediatrician in Madagascar and our correspondent for many years now, recently alerted me to little Andy. Since birth, he has suffered from a very severe heart defect.
Andy can’t breathe
A very premature baby, Andy weighed just over one kilogram when he was born. Because of this very low weight, the little boy suffers from bronchitis and, due to an abnormality in his heart, is excessively short of breath.
At the age of 2, a consultation with a French pediatrician at a health center near his home revealed that Andy was suffering from a severe congenital heart defect. The pediatrician advised his parents to take their child to the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire in Antananarivo, the island’s capital, for rapid surgical treatment by La Chaîne de l’Espoir.
Urgent heart surgery
Afflicted by this serious malformation since birth, little Andy is now 5 years old. Every day, he becomes a little more exhausted and can’t wait any longer. He urgently needs open-heart surgery, and this cannot be performed in Madagascar. As you read this, we know that open-heart surgery can be performed in Bordeaux, where a family is ready to welcome Andy. Thanks to your donations, we will be able to complete this chain of solidarity.
We need your help
Andy lives with his parents and 7-year-old sister in Mandritsara, an 18-hour drive from the capital. Both his parents are farmers, earning a modest income from their crops.
Repairing Andy’s heart will cost 12,000 euros.
Like other boys his age, Andy loves football and toy cars, and needs your help to repair his heart, catch his breath and simply live.
