A pediatric surgery mission in Thakhek

In November 2024, La Chaîne de l'Espoir led a pediatric surgery mission in Thakhek, Laos, operating on 20 children and training local surgeons.

From November 3 to 15, 2024, a volunteer medical team from La Chaîne de l’Espoir led a visceral surgery mission at the Thakhek hospital in Laos.

Twenty children aged between one month and thirteen years underwent surgery for a variety of conditions: hernias, malformations, cysts and thalassemias (hereditary blood disorders).

In Laos, there is no pediatric surgery curriculum, but surgeons at the Thakhek hospital had already benefited from two La Chaîne de l’Espoir training courses in 2023 and 2024.

This mission enabled them to deepen their skills, with the aim of better meeting the needs of young patients.
