Humanitarian missions proposed by La Chaîne de l’Espoir

For over 30 years, La Chaîne de l'Espoir has been involved in large-scale humanitarian missions in France and around the world, helping populations to meet the challenges of access to healthcare, humanitarian emergencies and the need for training and medical facilities. The association's humanitarian missions are numerous, enabling many people to continue to live, or to live better, depending on the humanitarian situation.

Medical care and interventions on humanitarian missions

Health is at the heart of our humanitarian aid programs. Our aim is to support sick children by providing them with specific care. Our work in France and in developing countries enables us to identify the needs of local people and provide them with targeted humanitarian aid. Sometimes, illness can be synonymous with difficulty and rejection. That’s why La Chaîne de l’Espoir teams organize humanitarian medical missions with different objectives :

  • Disease and infection prevention and awareness
  • Emergency response to situations of heightened danger
  • Diagnosing the disease to provide the necessary care

We are constantly in need of reinforcements to ensure that our activities and international humanitarian missions give rise to concrete action. Good to know : La Chaîne de l’Espoir does not offer paid humanitarian missions. Join our medical network and share your know-how, through volunteering, to help children in difficulty.

Participate in the training of local teams on humanitarian missions

Do you belong to the medical profession and would like to volunteer on a humanitarian mission? La Chaîne de l’Espoir is looking for medical personnel to train local professionals. To take part in the development of medicine in developing countries through a humanitarian mission abroad, it is essential to work on prevention and to raise awareness among healthcare personnel of the care methods to adopt.

Contribute your knowledge and share your medical know-how so that local healthcare teams can improve their skills. Humanitarian training and medical knowledge-sharing missions are those that bring long-term humanitarian aid to the countries concerned.

Countries where humanitarian missions are organized

La Chaîne de l’Espoir takes part in humanitarian missions in France and abroad, because for us, solidarity knows no borders. Our various humanitarian missions are organized in all our territories of action, particularly in humanitarian missions abroad in Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean. Here are just a few examples of our many international initiatives.

Setting up a health program in West Africa on a humanitarian mission

Our humanitarian missions in West Africa mainly concern the implementation of healthcare programs.

In Côte d’Ivoire and Mali, for example, where the health situation is complex, La Chaîne de l’Espoir has decided to set up a prevention program and humanitarian missions in Africa. The aim? To prevent the risks associated with domestic accidents, and in particular caustic stenosis of the oesophagus. Caustic stenosis is caused by the ingestion of caustic products to which children have access. Swallowing them produces painful lesions that prevent feeding. Intervention is urgently needed to help these children. You too can protect children by taking part in humanitarian missions in Africa with our medical teams.

In Mali, but in many other countries too, noma is a pathology that affects many children. Disabling and stigmatizing, this pathology often leads to school drop-out and social isolation. To counter the development of noma in children, humanitarian awareness-raising missions and training courses are organized for local doctors. La Chaîne de l’Espoir also offers other initiatives to promote access to healthcare.

In Togo, in addition to the surgical operations that continue to be carried out, the children have a real need for psychosocial and medical support. Throughout the year, social support is provided, as well as the distribution of uniforms and school supplies, hygiene kits and the renovation of houses and toilets. All our humanitarian missions in Africa are carried out with the help of medical volunteers.

Improving the healthcare system in Chad on a humanitarian mission

Development also requires an efficient healthcare system. La Chaîne de l’Espoir, in conjunction with local medical teams, is leading a humanitarian mission that includes a surgical pilot project to provide high-quality, affordable surgery in less than 2 hours. In particular, we are helping to set up a surgical training course for non-surgical doctors.

Carrying out awareness-raising workshops on humanitarian missions in Madagascar

The Malagasy population faces extreme poverty. To give them access to quality care through our humanitarian mission, our teams are helping to set up awareness-raising workshops on pediatric heart disease for the provincial medical corps. Every year, mass screening campaigns enable several children to benefit from a transfer to mainland France or Reunion Island. Are you a medical professional? You can help these children by taking part in a humanitarian mission in Madagascar with La Chaîne de l’Espoir.

Early detection of disabilities on humanitarian missions in Lebanon

Lebanon hosts more refugees per capita than any other country in the world. This population faces enormous difficulties in accessing healthcare, especially since the tragedy in Beirut.

To support them, La Chaîne de l’Espoir has joined forces with the Heart Beat association to take emergency action and set up humanitarian missions abroad in this country.

Specializing in cardiac and orthopedic surgery, the team of humanitarian volunteers is active throughout the year, carrying out operations on congenital heart disease.

Supporting humanitarian training in Laos

To be able to carry out specific surgical operations on children, medical teams in Laos need to acquire know-how. To help them learn pediatric surgical techniques, La Chaîne de l’Espoir doctors have set up a humanitarian program to support visceral pediatric surgery. By training local doctors, they can then train other healthcare professionals, guaranteeing the long-term viability of the project and ensuring that this humanitarian mission will continue over time.

A humanitarian mission to build hospitals in the Middle East

In Iraq, an operating theater was rehabilitated to strengthen the healthcare system. In conjunction with the Crisis and Support Center (CDCS) and Nadia’s Initiative Foundation, La Chaîne de l’Espoir deployed a large-scale humanitarian mission and opened a brand-new operating theatre within the health center in the town of Sinjar, which has suffered heavy destruction in recent years of war.

Our association is now embarking on the construction of a 28-bed hospital, which will provide the entire population with quality care in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology, emergency care and operations, imaging, laboratory analyses, etc. There are still many projects and humanitarian missions to be implemented to support the Iraqi population.

Would you like to get involved with La Chaîne de l’Espoir? These are just a few examples of the humanitarian actions we carry out in each of these countries. Many other populations need your support for a wide variety of humanitarian missions: in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cambodia, Cuba, Ivory Coast, Haiti, India, Jordan, Mozambique, Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Thailand.
