Iraq: construction work starts on the French Medical Center in Sinjar
After a year and a half of preparatory work, we signed a general construction contract with a local company in October 2021, leading to the start of work on the hospital in December 2021. On this date, we were able to organize the first on-site training session for young doctors from the area, in the presence of two French experts (a surgeon and an anesthetist).
Installed on land made available by the Iraqi Ministry of Health, this hospital will strengthen the healthcare offer in Sinjar and the Nineveh Plain. Beginning in 2019 and supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Center and the European Union’s Madad Fund, this project reinforces the work of 2018 co-Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad and her Foundation, Nadia’s Initiative. The year 2021 saw the completion of the entire execution design, the tendering with Iraqi companies and the signing of construction and supervision contracts.
” The French Medical Center project in Sinjar, Iraq, illustrates the richness and complementarity of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s teams and partners, and the strong ties forged through this sharing of skills, marked by design studies in France, Lebanon and Iraq. This ambitious project, built in 3D to international standards, will help to improve access to healthcare for the inhabitants of Sinjar. “
Hélène Camuset, hospital buildings project manager, La Chaîne de l’Espoir
Beforehand, La Chaîne de l’Espoir worked with contractors to ensure safe access to the site from the main road. We built a long gutter to direct water run-off during the rainy season, and an upper platform.
