A decisive step towards innovation and improved healthcare in West Africa
Partnership signed with Fann National University Hospital (CNHU)
The first agreement, signed on March 26, 2025, provides the framework for a project to support the development of cardiac surgery and pediatric cardiology in Senegal and West Africa.
The project, which runs from January 2025 to December 2027, aims to strengthen the capacity of the CNHU de Fann in these specialized fields by providing support in the form of medicines, consumables, spare parts and equipment, and by reinforcing medical and technical skills through the organization of expert missions.
The agreement also covers support for the care of vulnerable Senegalese children suffering from heart disease, as well as children from the West African sub-region, as part of the South-South transfer program.
The agreement also provides for the creation of a Vascular, Endovascular and Cardiac Center (CVEC).
Indeed, faced with the rise in cardiovascular disease in Africa, linked to the increase in risk factors such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes and smoking, La Chaîne de l’Espoir is focusing on strengthening prevention and referral, accessibility to treatment, and scientific reflection on these diseases.
The aim is to support the CHNU de Fann in the management of vascular pathologies, not only through innovative techniques, but also by training teams and operating as part of fellowship surgical missions. The CVEC will also become a regional training center for vascular surgery in West Africa.
Partnership signed with the West African Polytechnic University (UPOA)

This partnership, which runs from December 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027, aims to train technicians specializing in the maintenance of medical equipment, in order to guarantee its proper functioning and ensure the sustainability of healthcare infrastructures.
The aim of these two partnership agreements is toimprove the quality of healthcare and the management of heart disease in Senegal, while strengthening the biomedical capabilities of local medical and technical teams.
