World Mental Health Day 2025

On World Mental Health Day, October 10, 2025, La Chaîne de l’Espoir reaffirms its commitment to effective access to care and psychosocial support. From Afghanistan, which was hit by an earthquake on August 31, to France, where she works alongside the Paris University Hospital Group (GHU Paris) in child psychiatry, she places mental health at the heart of her actions.

What is World Mental Health Day?

The World Mental Health Day takes place every year on October 10. Its aim is to raise awareness of mental disorders, strengthen their treatment and combat stigmatization. It is a reminder that mental health is an integral part of health, and encourages the mobilization of everyone around this issue: institutions, associations and the general public.

Access to services and psychosocial support in crisis situations

For the 2025 edition World Mental Health Day highlights an often-neglected priority: access to mental health services in disasters and emergencies. This theme advocates a systematic integration of psychosocial support for populations affected by humanitarian crises. Conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics weaken health systems and inevitably increase signs of psychological distress in affected populations. The World Mental Health Day 2025 reminds us of the urgent need for comprehensive responses, taking into account mental health in the same way as physical health.

From awareness to action : mental health at the heart of our activities

La Chaîne de l’Espoir integrates psychosocial support into its medical actions to accompany populations through the ordeals they face. This approach is fully in line with the priorities of World Mental Health Day 2025.

Earthquake emergency: mobilization in Afghanistan

In the spirit of the 2025 theme, which focuses on access to services in disaster and emergency situations, La Chaîne de l’Espoir is currently working in Afghanistan to treating visible and invisible wounds. On August 31, 2025, a magnitude 6 earthquake struck the provinces of Kounar, Nouristan and Nangarhâr. Right from the start, our teams were on the scene, transferring victims to theFrench Medical Institute for Mother and Child (IMFE) in Kabul.

But the emergency goes beyond physical injury. Many patients and children have suffered major family losses and show signs of psychological distress: nightmares, anxiety, withdrawal. That’s why we’ve integrated a psychosocial support to support their psychological reconstruction. In such a context, guaranteeing access to and continuity of medical and psychosocial services is vital.
