World Bequest Day for Associations and Foundations 2025
What is World Bequest Day?
The World Bequest Day for Associations and Foundations is celebrated every year on September 13 with the aim of :
- Inform and raise awareness among the general public of the possibility of passing on an inheritance to associations and foundations.
- Enhance the impact of these donations, which enable many organizations to perpetuate their actions in the fields of health, education, solidarity and the environment.
- Encourage people to think about passing on their assets and giving meaning to their wealth.
World Bequest Day: what is a bequest?
At La Chaîne de l’Espoir, bequests play an essential role in the continuation of our programs, which aim to guarantee access to healthcare for children living in countries where medical infrastructures and qualified personnel are sorely lacking.
A bequest, written in a will, enables anyone to pass on all or part of their assets to an association.
In France, gifts, which include bequests, donations and life insurance, are growing steadily and today represent an essential part of the generosity of the French.
In 2024, donations accounted for almost 10% of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s resources.
How can I make a bequest to La Chaîne de l’Espoir?
Making a bequest is still a process with many preconceived ideas: according to the barometer “Les Français, le testament et le legs”, 44% of French people don’t really understand the usefulness of drawing up a will, while 22% believe that making a bequest is complex from an administrative point of view.
However, the reality is very different: drawing up a will is a simple act, which can be carried out with the assistance of a notary, and which not only protects your loved ones, but also gives meaning to your estate by supporting a charitable cause. By designating an association such as La Chaîne de l’Espoir, you can be sure that your legacy will be used in its entirety to finance humanitarian actions, thanks to the total exemption from inheritance tax provided for by law.
As we like to say: “A few lines in your will can save lives.“

2025: life insurance, a growth driver
While bequests through wills remain the best-known form of joint transmission, life insurance is becoming increasingly popular, particularly as the Livret A interest rate continues to fall. More and more savers are choosing this flexible, tax-efficient investment, which is accessible to all, to give meaning to their assets.
Life insurance allows you to designate an association as the beneficiary of all or part of your policy, while retaining the freedom to change your wishes at any time. Beyond its wealth-generating dimension, it becomes a powerful vector of solidarity: by choosing La Chaîne de l’Espoir, every capital sum transmitted is transformed into vital surgical care, sustainable programs and hope for the most vulnerable children.
On this World Bequest Day for associations and foundations, La Chaîne de l’Espoir wishes to highlight all those who, through a bequest, donation or life insurance policy, have chosen to extend their generosity.
