World Bequest Day for Associations and Foundations 2023
September 13 marks World Bequest Day for charitable associations and foundations. Bequests are a form of generosity that is still little known, yet essential to associations such as La Chaîne de l’Espoir. A bequest is a gift made in a will, enabling the donor to pass on all or part of his or her assets to La Chaîne de l’Espoir.
World Bequest Day is an initiative to raise awareness and encourage people to bequeath all or part of their property or assets to causes close to their hearts. It aims to promote generosity and demonstrate the positive and lasting impact of bequests, whether of money, property or other assets.
To bequeath all or part of your estate to an association or foundation, such as La Chaîne de l’Espoir, you need to draw up a will to express your wishes. The will can be drawn up with the help of a notary, who can then register it with the FCDDV (fichier central des dispositions de dernières volontés). Good to know: La Chaîne de l’Espoir, as an association of general humanitarian interest, is totally exempt from transfer and inheritance taxes under article 795-4 of the French General Tax Code.
In 2022, bequests and life insurance policies accounted for 9% of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s resources, totalling €2,646,000. And, as in previous years, they provided essential funding for our programs to promote access to specialized surgical care for children in countries with insufficient hospital infrastructure and qualified medical staff.
Thank you!
