Cambodia: Taking on child cardiovascular disease

- To improve the Cambodian healthcare system by offering in-need children with cardiovascular disease access to care and by ensuring the creation of national specialised care - An overall increase in specialised treatment in Cambodia by supporting the training of a new cohort of specialists and by bringing technical assistance to the Calmette Hospital Cardiology Department, Phnom Penh and the Kantha Bopha Foundation Jayavarman VII Hospital Cardiology Centre in Siem Reap
ACTIVITY :
The Pavilion was created in 2003 in Phnom Penh by La Chaîne de l’Espoir to accommodate needy child victims of cardiovascular disease through consultation or hospitalisation. This treatment unit, graciously housed by the Calmette Public Hospital, is composed of 28 beds, 2 cardiac exam rooms, and a dental office to prevent post-operative endocarditis. This treatment unit is characterised by its sustained activity.
Contributing to the training of a new cohort of Cambodian specialists
- La Chaîne de l’Espoir supports the Postdoctoral Diploma of Cardiology, available since January, 2012 at the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh.
- In support of this programme, the Pavilion welcomes residents in training.
Providing technical assistance to the Calmette Hospital Cardiology Department
The Phnom Penh Cardiology Centre (PPCC), founded by La Chaîne de l’Espoir in 2001, became the Calmette Hospital Cardiology Department in May, 2013. This is a decisive step to institutionalise this project which La Chaîne de l’Espoir supervises through training missions, treatment and targeted equipment donations.
This assistance continues to ensure good medical practices.
