Technical expertise
Biomedical engineer
As specialists in high-tech hospital equipment, biomedical engineers are at the heart of our operations. They assess needs in the field, draw up equipment plans, select the most appropriate equipment and maintain it to guarantee quality care.
For example, during the renovation of the surgical unit at the Centre Hospitalier de Soavinandriana in Madagascar, our engineers installed state-of-the-art equipment for the operating theatre.
Infrastructure and Biomedical Department Coordinator
The technical coordinator is an expert in optimization and coordination. Working in tandem with the department manager, he or she develops cross-functional initiatives such as skills sponsorship, communication tools and the volunteer network. He or she also supports the engineers in drafting documents, communicating with donors and developing strategies.
During the installation of new respirators in the André Festoc pediatric surgery unit at the Hôpital Mère-Enfant du Luxembourg in Bamako, the coordinator played a crucial role. He offered additional training to biomedical engineers from partner hospitals to ensure optimal use of the equipment.
“A hospital stay can sometimes be traumatic, especially if the child has to be uprooted to be treated in France. Our role today is to ensure that the child can be cared for at home, with his or her family, in a high-quality hospital environment, with world-class technical facilities. This wish, this objective, guides every one of our projects. “
Mathilde Lachaud, Technical Coordinator, Infrastructure and Equipment Department, La Chaîne de l’Espoir.
Hospital architect
Hospital architects bring a unique vision to construction and renovation projects. Right from the design phase, he assesses existing structures and identifies the needs of each hospital department. He guides feasibility studies through to construction supervision. His specific knowledge of hospital flows and nursing staff needs makes him the backbone of construction projects.
During construction of the French Medical Institute for Mother and Child (IMFE) in Kabul, Afghanistan, the architect worked closely with engineers and medical staff to create functional, modern spaces.

One concrete example is the renovation of several departments at the Medical Research and Care Center (MRCC) in Mosul, Iraq. The reopening of these departments, financed by the Agence Française de Développement, will enable patients to be received and the research center to resume operations. The challenge for the hospital engineer is to assess the necessary repairs and bring into service these state-of-the-art facilities, which have been idle for several years.
