Treating children in their own country

WHEN THE LOCAL HEALTHCARE SITUATION ALLOWS, WE PREFER TO TREAT CHILDREN IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY - WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF OUR MISSIONS TO CONDUCT OPERATIONS AND TRAIN LOCAL TEAMS

The children benefit from superior recovery when they are in an environment they know and surrounded by loved ones.

THE MOST EFFICIENT USE OF RESOURCES

Optimising the costs and volunteer resources of our teams means that we can operate on the maximum number of children on each mission, despite a limited budget. We operate on between 10 and 50 children per mission, depending on their illnesses.

This means that we are able to treat nearly 5,000 children every year, for illnesses requiring all types of surgery – orthopaedic, plastic, heart, neurological, visceral, etc.

OUR LONG-TERM WORK

Missions are also an opportunity to offer medical and paramedical training to local personnel - both hands-on and theory.

We give lectures at hospitals or universities that cover all stages of treatment:

  • Diagnostics
  • Triage according to illness
  • Surgical and anaesthetic techniques
  • Post-operation follow-up

ESSENTIAL EXPLORATORY MISSIONS

Asia, Africa, South America, Eastern Europe or the Middle East… the diversity of these territories necessitates a thorough logistics plan. Every medical-surgical mission is therefore preceded by technical assessment missions and the transportation of any supplies, equipment and medicines required on the ground.

The triage of children is based on examination of the case file compiled by the local doctors we have trained.
