The construction of the maternity building is now completed

Maternity of Kabul

Installation of equipment is underway and the inauguration will take place mid-October.

Gynaecology-obstetrics consultations already started on September 7th and patients now benefit from the services provided.
La Chaîne de l’Espoir is supervising and providing training courses for the future maternity staff.

Therefore, a large number of missions have been scheduled with volunteer French doctors, on Mrs Agnès Simon’s advice, executive midwife and local coordinator for the Women wing.

In April 2016, Dr Jean-Michel Muray (obstetrician-gynaecologist), Dr Azadah Yacoub (obstetrician-gynaecologist) and Dr Pascale Levasseur (paediatrician neonatologist) led a 10-day mission to support the medical coordination of FMIC’s new wing. They evaluated and made recommendations regarding equipment, protocols in place, packages and recruitment.

Training on newborn care in the delivery room has been provided by Dr Levasseur to a large public of 100 people, including FMIC’s staff and also partners from other public hospitals in Kabul.

Regarding anaesthesia, Dr Adeline Gerst (anaesthetist intensivist) came in July 2016 and Dr Marie Darien (anaesthetist intensivist) in September, both as volunteers, to give theoretical training on obstetrical anaesthesia for anaesthetists, residents and midwives of FMIC.

Upcoming missions will focus on the needs for the new wing: anaesthetics, obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology
